CREW DESCRIPTIONS
Technical/Box Apprentice | Must be 14+ | APPRENTICESHIP ONLY**This position involves working closely with the various technical members in the box to learn more about areas of interest (sound, lighting, projections, etc). As this is an apprenticeship, you will not be responsible for running boards during the show, unless determined otherwise at an advanced point in the rehearsal process. This is a great opportunity for learning, asking questions, and still participating in the production and ETD family building process!
Set Construction Team Member | Must be 13+ This position involves assisting with the building, painting, maintenance, and dressing/staging of sets under the direction of the Head of Workshop and Set Designer. Set construction team members also will have the opportunity to join the team of stagehands and will get to work backstage during the show as stagehands.
Set Stagehand | Must be 12+ Early in the process, members in this role may be involved in construction/painting of sets. When called to rehearsals and during the run of the show, set stage hands will be responsible for placing furniture/set pieces where they need to be before each scene begins and then helping with each scene transition. They will help with organization backstage. Set Stagehands work under the direction of the Head Stagehand and the Stage Manager. This position may involve heavy lifting. This will be a lower time commitment until early May.
Prop Master/ Stagehand | Must be 12+ Early in the process, members in this role may be involved in the making and curating of props. When called to rehearsals and during the run of the show, prop masters will be responsible for placing props where they need to be before each scene begins and then helping with each scene transition. They are responsible for keeping track of the props backstage as well as handing actors the props that they need as they enter for each scene. Prop Masters work under the direction of the Head Propmaster and the Stage Manager. This will be a lower time commitment until early May.
Costumer/dresser | must be 14+ This position involves working under the supervision of the Wardrobe Manager and Head Costumers. Dressers may assist with the curation of various costume pieces and may assist with building costumes. Dressers are also responsible for managing the costumes and keeping them organized during the run of the show. They also orchestrate costume changes and assist actors backstage.
Hair/Makeup Assistant | must be 14+ This position involves assisting actors with doing their stage makeup and hair (wigs may also be utilized). As an “assistant” you will be working with the Head Makeup/Hair stylist. This role incorporates a variety of make techniques, styles, and aesthetics. During the run of the show, you will help with making quick alterations to the actor's hair and makeup between scenes. You must have an in depth understanding of makeup and enjoy applying it and researching it regularly as a hobby. It’s important that you are willing to learn about the differences in daily makeup vs stage make up.
Photographer | some experience required - must submit portfolio | must be 14+ Our company photographer will be required to come to a minimum of three rehearsals per month and will need to come to all of the technical and dress rehearsals. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about taking both performance and backstage photos to capture the heart of our program from the inside out! We would like staged, candid, and personality shots as well as professional headshots for our company. We are in need of someone who will provide their own DSLR camera and be competent in operation and editing.
Social Media Team Member | some experience required | must be 14+ This role involves helping us coordinate and record reels and “instagram takeovers” during the rehearsal and production process. We are looking for someone who is both creative and good at understanding and following formatting. This position will require both fun and maturity, as you will be representing our company to the community through our social media platforms. You may also be asked to attend events such as The Jackson Art Walk and other marketing ventures in order to record our process and give the outside community a window into our world! Some experience with social media tools will be required.
Assistant House Manager | Must be 14+ This position involves assisting our House Manager with both creative and practical needs! Responsibilities include occasionally observing rehearsals so that you can help with design planning of the Front of House (lobby/concessions) to match the show theme in fun and innovative ways such as deciding on the refreshments offered and the decor of the lobby. Some of the preparations will include doing graphic design work for the creation of pre-show slides and signage. Responsibilities will also include set up and display of lobby and auditorium during the week of show as well as assisting with recruiting ushers and front of house/concessions volunteers. As the Assistant House Manager, you will also help work Front Of House during show week which involves ushering and concessions. Priorities are hospitality and making sure our audiences feel welcome and cared for!
- Ushering - Ushers work under the guidance of the House Manager. They are responsible for handing out programs and tissues as the audience members enter. They also help patrons find open seats when they arrive. Ushers may be asked to assist with setting up chairs in the house and cleaning up the aisles and seating areas after show nights. Ushers must be enthusiastic about hospitality and have a desire to welcome people into our theatre home! We will need a minimum of two ushers during each performance night .
- Concessions Team Member - This position involves organizing refreshments (including drinks, popcorn, and candy), taking payments for the concessions, and keeping the food stand clean in the lobby. Concessions Team members need to be comfortable with using basic math skills for taking payments and giving change as well as be excited about serving our audiences and helping them feel welcome when they first enter the lobby!
