Our program is built to serve 6th through 12th grade students.
Class Description
This year's curriculum will include 1 hour of sign language instruction (in order to prepare students for the material within the play) and then transition into 2 hours of rehearsal time. There will be a lot of discussion and interaction during this time. Students will also learn some fun warm up games. However, this time will primarily be used as a professional rehearsal time. The goal is to train students on how a successful show is developed. This will culminate into a full-length final performance at the end of the school year with several consecutive show dates.
The semester will begin with auditions (for on stage roles) and a sign up sheet (for tech and crew positions). NO ONE WILL BE TURNED AWAY! It is our desire to open this class to students who do not desire to perform but still have a passion for participating in the creative process. Through auditions, we will assign roles for onstage and off stage. All of our tech crew will be guided in how to do their responsibilities and how to help pull a show together like a professional theatre company. All of our actors will learn how to do intensive character development throughout the year.
Students will be graded through a rubric which includes categories such as participation, completion and quality of assignments, and final performance.

About the Play
We are proud to announce that the play for this year will be "Falling In Love with Silence." This story has been on Mrs. Kennedy's heart for a while and offers some powerful messages. With the assistance of Mrs Bry, the script will be completed this summer and ready for the stage as the new semester approaches. We are extremely excited about this collaboration. It is our hope to produce a truthful and endearing story worthy of bringing to life.
The play tells the stories of characters within and surrounding the deaf community. They encounter typical issues that highschoolers face but they also must discover who they are and what they should do in the midst of their unique circumstances. Logistically, the play will require a small/medium size cast but can allow for flexibility when it comes to ensemble roles. It is our hope to use this production to reach out to the deaf community and use this as an opportunity for our students to learn ministry through the performing arts. The play confronts some deep topics that we will grapple with in such a way that compassion and strength can grow.
