C O D E  O F  C O N D U C T


M E M B E R  R E S P O N S I B I L I T I E S

BEHAVIOR
  1. In keeping with our Core Values, members are expected to be considerate and respectful of other members and leadership at all times. This includes inside and outside of rehearsal space. Especially in actions, speech (online or offline), behavior and dress.
  2. Members exhibiting inappropriate behavior, speech, and dress will be referred to the Disciplinary Process listed in the Code of Conduct.
  3. The following will not be tolerated in the REHEARSAL SPACE.  Members may be suspended or terminated from the program for explicit or ongoing issues with any of the following: 
    1. Disrespect of other Members, Directors, or Production Team - including but not limited to insubordination, rudeness, discrimination, and lack of attention.
    2. Abuse or theft of HLA, HCF, or ETD property - including but not limited to damaging, defacing, stealing personal or ETD/HLA property. 
    3. Physical abuse of Members, Directors, or Production Team - including but not limited to hitting, biting, pushing, restraining, tripping, etc.
    4. Emotional or Verbal harassment (bullying) - including but not limited to derogatory comments, insults, threats, intimidation, etc.
    5. Sexual Harassment (Physical and Verbal) - including but not limited to unwelcome physical contact, comments or jokes of a sexual nature, requests for sexual favors, or any sexual behavior that creates a uncomfortable or offensive environment.
    6. Public Displays of Affection (PDA) - affection with others should be kept moderate and respectful. Excessive or inappropriate displays of affection are not permitted.
    7. Inappropriate communication or language - includes any derogatory, discriminatory, disrespectful, or profane remarks, jokes, or gestures. This applies to both verbal and written forms of communication.
    8. Negative or Inappropriate Electronic Communication - such as messaging on platforms and posting  on social media  (including but not limited to Discord, Slack, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Snapchat, etc).
    9. Possession of Weapons - including firearms, knives, explosives, or any other dangerous objects, or items intended to cause harm, on HLA/ETD property or at events is strictly prohibited. This rule also applies to any item used to cause harm, regardless of its original intended use.
    10. Possession and Use of Substances - including but not limited to alcohol, drugs (including prescription medications not prescribed to the individual), and other nicotine substances (including vaping and vape pens) are PROHIBITED and may result in the member being terminated from the program. Parents will be contacted if a student requests over the counter medication i.e. Ibuprofen, Pamprin, Tylenol, etc.
    11. Phones are to be silenced and out of sight unless a Director has approved the use of the phones for research, music or contacting parents.
    12. Be respectful of the staff of HomeLife Academy.  Please remember we are guests of HLA.  
    13. Members need to arrive on time to rehearsal and must be picked up or leave at the end of rehearsal in a timely manner (15 min).
DRESS CODE
  1. Dress to respect and protect your own body. What you wear may be deemed inappropriate and we ask you to respect others as much as yourself. We do not want to restrict your expression; we want you to be you. Our dress code is in place to create an equal, fair, and healthy environment. Appropriate attire is determined at the discretion of the Directors and Production Team for the respect of the program and venue.
    1. All clothing should fit and be worn properly.
    2. No clothing or accessories should have explicit words/pictures. Wording, logos, graphics that may be offensive in nature are prohibited.
    3. Hats will be allowed if they are not distracting in nature; you may be asked to remove it when on stage.
    4. Skirts are allowed, but not recommended due to the nature of the program. If skirts are worn, wear shorts or leggings under them.
    5. Dresses are allowed, but not recommended due to the nature of the program. If dresses are worn, wear shorts or leggings under them.
    6. Shorts are allowed, but must have a minimum 5" inseam.
    7. Sleeveless Shirts & Tank-tops are allowed, provided they are not low-cut or revealing.
    8. Pants must be worn properly; you may be asked to wear a belt.
    9. No open-back clothing .
    10. Cleanliness and proper hygiene is required.  
  2. Directors reserve the right to address any attire that they feel is inappropriate for the program.

DISCIPLINARY PROCESS
  1. Members who have exhibited inappropriate behavior, speech, and or dress will be addressed in the following manner:
  1. 1st Offense: Member is addressed and given a warning by Director(s);
  2. 2nd Offense: If the offense continues, member will meet with Director(s) and WBA (Well-being Advocate) privately (if the member is a minor, the parent/guardian will be notified);
  3. 3rd Offense/Suspension: Member will be suspended from company upon review of violations by the Enlightening The Dark Board. Parent/Guardian will be asked to meet with Directors & WBA (Well-being Advocate); to discuss next steps for reinstatement or whether termination is warranted.
  4. Termination: In the event that the Board decides, or issues with aforementioned member(s) persist, that individual’s membership will be terminated. However, the Board may allow the member to return for a future season, after considering the following:  
    1. The nature of the offense 
    2. The well-being of other members
    3. Amends having been made
    4. Notable personal growth
    2. Depending on the severity of the offense parents may be notified as early as the first offense.

Statement to Students About Open Communication 
​As your directors and artistic facilitators, it is our desire to create a welcoming and safe environment. That begins with the relationships built in our creative space. When in a moment of concern, confusion, or discomfort please know that we are here to listen and support your needs. You are
always welcome to approach us when it comes to your well-being. If you are unsure if your concerns are valid, we would rather hear you than have you feel unsupported or unheard. Talk to us.
